Mobile devices - Information on DoC, MSDS, UN38.3

Safety Data Sheets are intended for ‘substances’ and ‘mixtures’ and are a well-established requirement for chemicals placed on the EU market.

Batteries, however, are classified as ‘articles’ and are therefore exempt from the SDS (previously: MSDS) requirement under EU legislation.

Those safety data sheets will be updated only in case of changes within the product or the legal requirement. A regular/annual update is not necessary.

In practice, some customers still request an SDS. As a service, we provide the information of the battery suppliers, who are using the similar structure as an SDS.

The key point is that an SDS must be translated into the official language(s) of each EU Member State where the product is placed on the market. This obligation does not apply to the information provided.
